NEW DELHI: Maninder Singh's 62nd minute strike helped Government Model School, Chandigarh, overcome St. Anthony's School, Shillong, 3-2 to enter the quarterfinals of the Subroto Cup (under-14) football tournament at the Ambedkar Stadium here on Monday. Earlier, Gagandeep Singh and Baljinder scored for the Chandigarh boys before Samuel Shadap and Binoor Rapsang restored parity for the Shillong team In another match, Sainik School, Imphal, crushed New Sunrise School, Fatehabad (Haryana), 8-0. Paocha Hao Kig (four), Lalhriatpuia, Tem Kutung, Lalmasawma and Gaichangjou were the scorers. Moti Lal Nehru School of Sports, Rai (Haryana), blanked Father Agnel School, Pilar, (Goa) 5-0. Nikhil Dabas (three), Amit Kumar and Bikramjeet found the target. Meanwhile, Sant Baba Hazara Singh School, Gurdaspur (Punjab), toyed with Namohi Sports Hostel, Sikkim, and raced away to an 18-0 victory. In this hopelessly one-sided match, Sunny scored 11 goals including a hat-trick. Daljit (four), Narvail Singh (two) and Paramjit Singh also contributed to the tally. On Sunday, local school Air Force Bal Bharti defeated Father Agnel School 3-0, St. Anthony, Shillong, got past New Sunrise 4-1 and Government Model School, Chandigarh, beat Sainik School 2-0.
