"More funds available to women entrepreneurs"

CHENNAI: The State Government has made available more funds to women entrepreneurs and self-help groups, especially those run by women, Arun Ramanathan, Secretary, Small Industries, said on Monday.

The climate was conducive for more women to start enterprises, he said at the valedictory function of a seminar and exposition on women entrepreneurship.

It was organised by the Women Entrepreneurship Promotional Association.

The State Bank of India had funded the single largest pool of enterprises run by SHGs and 80 per cent of these were run by women, said Malathi Krishnan, Deputy General Manager, State Bank of India, Local Head Office, Chennai.

The bank was ready to extend all help to women entrepreneurs.

C.K. Gariyali, principal secretary to the Governor, and Prema Desikan, president, WEPA, spoke.
