Committee chief wants law on minority institutions changed

Staff Reporter

Minority institutions can appoint directors and other staff from their religion

  • M.S.A. Siddiqui holds meeting with representatives of minority institutions
  • State governments should issue no-objection certificates within 90 days

BANGALORE: The State governments should amend their respective Acts and schedules in consonance with Article 30 of the Constitution that has given the right to establish and administer educational institutions of their choice for all minorities, Chairman of the National Commission for Minority Educational Institutions M.S.A. Siddiqui has said.

Mr. Siddiqui, who is on a two-day visit to the State, was addressing representatives of minority educational institutions at the Vidhana Soudha here on Thursday.

He said that barring the State's right to prescribe minimum qualification for appointing staff, minority institutions had the right to appoint boards of directors of their religion and staff and to take action against the erring employees.

Educational institutions that could not get a response from the State authorities for their applications seeking no-objection certificates within 90 days could presume that they (NOCs) had been granted. Aggrieved parties could approach the Commission for all disputes, he added. Over 250 representatives of minority educational institutions participated.
