KOCHI: The City Police have brought in traffic regulations in view of the rush during Onam. The regulations came into force on Thursday. The police made unprecedented arrangements to meet the rush, said a press release by the city police. Two companies of Kerala Armed Police were deployed in the city. A special festival control room started functioning at the Durbar Hall Grounds, as more rush was experienced in this area. Around 25 policemen, including women constables, would be present round-the-clock at the control room. The team was so positioned as to reach any part of the city in the shortest possible time. Around 200 local policemen and 20 officers were deployed in different parts of the city for festival duty. Another 100-odd plainclothesmen were also deployed. Special arrangements were made to ensure the security of those coming out to see the illumination on the street during night hours. The City Police Commissioner would convene a meeting of representatives of resident associations to discuss security of houses during festival time. Those who were leaving the city during festival time should alert neighbouring police station. The public should call toll-free numbers 100, 1090 or 1098 anytime for assistance. Crime stopper facility would be available for mobile phone users at the number 0484-2382260. For traffic related issues, public should call 1099.
Traffic regulations
Parking would be banned along the Durbar Hall Road between Jos Junction and BTH Junction. Those who come to these regions should park diagonally at the Foreshore Road. People should not leave valuables inside the cars. People should make maximum use of `pay-and-park' facilities. Those coming to Menaka Junction and Marine Drive should park their vehicles at Marine Drive Grounds.
Shadows strengthened
The number of Shadows, the special plainclothesmen, was increased for the festival season. Strict action would be taken against those found harassing women and committing offences like robbery or pick pocketing, the police said.
