CHENNAI
: The new office building of Ambattur municipality constructed on a sprawling space totalling about 35,000 sq.ft will be inaugurated on Friday. The building constructed at a cost of Rs.2.13 crore will be declared open by Local Administration Minister M. K. Stalin.
V. Chakrapani, Municipal Commissioner, said that with the opening of the new office, the municipality would be functioning in the biggest office building among the 102 local bodies in the State.
The single-storey building constructed in an area of 3.4 acres would house the five departments of the municipality. While information centre, revenue collection centre and municipal commissioner's and chairman's offices would function on the ground floor, sections such as town planning and health would be accommodated on the first floor, which is spread across 16, 800 sq.ft., Mr. Chakrapani said.
It was proposed to rent the existing office building, which has computer and revenue sections functioning now, to sub-registrar's office.
The construction of the new building began in October 2004 and was waiting for formal inauguration for a few months now.
The conduct of elections was one of the factors for delay in opening the new building.
Minister for Fisheries K. P. P. Swamy, Union Minister of State for Railways R.Velu and Thiruvallur Collector Ranvir Prasad would participate in the inauguration ceremony.
