Eye camp

CHENNAI: The Hindu Mission Hospital conducted the Kannappar Free Eye Camp at Sri Kandasram in Selaiyur on Wednesday. An ophthalmologist and refractionist screened 110 persons. Fifteen persons were referred for free intra-ocular lens surgery.

Special course in yoga

The Satyananda Yogashram's Yoga Therapy and Research Centre is organising a special course in Yoga for improving eyesight from Friday for 10 days. Participants should be below 40 years of age. The camp is at Besant Nagar from 6 to 7 a.m. and at Choolai from 6 to 7 p.m. For details contact: 2669 2021/94443 68448.

Training in self-awareness

Acharya Vinay Vinekar, founder of the Institute of Universal Consciousness will conduct a basic training programme on self-awareness from Friday to September 10 at the Sree Ramana Hall, Rajambal Street, T. Nagar.

Office-bearers elected

New office-bearers have been elected to the Ambattur Industrial Estate Manufacturers Association (AIEMA) at the general body meeting held on August 5. M. Elumalai is the chairman, G. Selvanathan, Vice-Chairman, R. Ramachander, honorary general secretary, R. Krishnan, honorary joint secretary and R. Mohanadoss is the honorary treasurer.

School annual day

MES Razeena Matriculation HSS held its 29th annual day on the school premises. David T. Hopper, U.S. Consul General for South India distributed prizes to school toppers.

He also commended the school for its cent per cent result in the higher secondary examination for the third year in a row. Laiqunissa, the principal, read out the annual report. M. Razzack, chairman, welcomed the gathering. K.V. Mamu Koya, correspondent, proposed a vote of thanks. The Parent Teacher Association felicitated the teachers and students.

Bank centenary celebrated

The Indian Bank, Saidapet Branch, celebrated the bank's centenary at Saidapet recently.

A centenary year customer meet was organised in which J. Radhakrishnan, director, rural development was the chief guest.

K.B.N. Murthy, general manager, circle head, Chennai, C.P.S. Murugan, Branch Manager and staff members participated.

Prizes distributed to students

The D.A.V. Public School, Velachery celebrated its school annual day recently. M.V.V. Prasada Rao, Joint Secretary and Regional officer, C.B.S.E. distributed endowment and proficiency prizes to students for their academic excellence. Seetha Kiran, regional director, DAV Institutions, South Zone, welcomed the gathering.

The school magazine, Chintan - 2006 was released on the occasion.

T.S. Sridharan, vice-chairman, Schools, Local Managing Committee received a copy.

A cultural programme was held.
