New initiative to help publishers

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: In a unique initiative to help publishers across the country, the Registrar of Newspapers for India (RNI) has started issuing on-line title verification letters. Now applications can be submitted on-line and also its status known on the RNI website.

Publishers can now download their title verification letters from the website and send them on-line.

The RNI has developed this in-house system with the help of the Centre's National Informatics Centre (NIC). It puts sanctioned verification letters on its secure website that can be accessed from anywhere, anytime.

Titles on website

The cleared titles appear on the RNI website on a day-to-day basis from which the applicant or publisher can know the status of his application.

Publishers can also download the title certificate in Hindi-English bi-lingual format and take printouts to the District Magistrate or the local authority to start publishing periodicals.

Besides helping publishers and bringing in more transparency, the initiative will also result in the Government exchequer saving money as the title verification letters, which were sent by registered post till now, will be sent by ordinary post.
