KARUR: The Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has planned to capture the retail sales market by showcasing fuel stations with value addition.

As part of its Highway Assurance Plan, four `on stop trucker and tourist shops' would come up on company-owned company-operated basis along the highways in the districts of Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Erode, Salem, Namakkal, Karur, Perambalur, Pudukkottai, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam and the Karaikal region of Pondicherry. The shops would have special recreational and refreshment features, and support facilities.

Their scaled down version, called Highway Stars, has been planned at 25 destinations in the territory and these outlets would be entrusted to enterprising dealers. All facilities are expected to be in place in the next couple of months, according to its Territory Manager, P. Muthuselvan.

Thirteen essential preferences or facilities have been enlisted and would be made availableas value addition in these stations.

The BPCL is commanding a 32 per cent market share in the highway retail business in the territory. At present, it sells 6,000 KL petrol and 20,000 KL diesel a month in the Karur retail territory. The petrol segment in the territory is expected to have a seven per cent growth while diesel demand is expected to go up by 15 to 20 per cent. Of this, the BPCL hopes to have a four per cent growth in petrol segment and 15 per cent in the diesel segment.

The BPCL's Karur receiving terminal at Athur near here feeds 9,000 KL petrol, 33,000 KL diesel and 6,000 KL kerosene a month, says the Terminal Manager, S.I. Basheer Ahmed
