Leh cut off, crops washed away

LEH: Leh district of Jammu and Kashmir remained cut off from the rest of the country on Thursday due to floods caused by incessant rains for the past two days.

The flood waters washed away several bridges, a monk cell in Pyang monastery and damaged an "Imam bara" in the district, officials said on Thursday adding that there were no reports of any casualty.

The Srinagar-Leh national highway remained closed due to water-logging at the Nimmo village bridge, 36 km from Leh city, Deputy Commissioner M.K. Dwivedi said. The Leh-Manali road also remained closed due water-logging at Igoo village. The administration has sought help from the Army in relief and rescue operations. — PTI
