Strong reply by Indian colts

London: Indian colts made a confident start to their innings, making 230 for three after dismissing their England counterparts for 392 on the second day of the second Test at Canterbury, Taunton.

Openers Uday Kaul (46) and Aziz Parveez (49) put on 64 runs for the first wicket as the Indian top order milked the English bowlers after the host — riding on the hundreds made by Adil Rashid (114) and Varun Chopra (123) — posted a commanding total in the second match of the three-match series.

Aziz was unlucky to miss his fifty as he was out leg before off a Rashid delivery.

Aziz's departure, however, did not affect the run-rate as Sumit Sharma (42) joined Uday to take the Indian total to 150. The English struck in quick succession after that as both Sumit and Uday departed in the space of six runs.

Upperhand

However, Tanmay Srivastava (24) and Virat Kholi (47) made sure that the Indians ended the day decently. The duo remained unbeaten.

Earlier, Rashid produced a fine performance for the English at Canterbury. Rashid's 114 came off just 194 deliveries, which included 15 fours and three sixes.

Resuming on overnight 279 for six, Rashid and Greg Wood added 102 for the seventh wicket before the former was caught by Abu Necheem Ahmed off a Sumit Sharma delivery.

Ahmed, who bowled a fine spell to claim four for 79, removed the tail quickly with only Wood offering resistance with his valiant 48.

Brief scores: England under-19 392 (V. Chopra 123, A. Rashid 114, Abu Necheem Ahmed four for 79) vs. India under-19: 230 for three (Uday Kaul 46, Aziz Parveez 49). — UNI
