Indian Bank in last four

Sports Reporter

CHENNAI: The former champion Indian Bank entered the semifinals with a 93-70 win over Southern Railway in the IOB-TNBA golden jubilee State basketball championship at the J. Jayalalithaa Indoor Stadium here on Thursday.

Arguably, IB's S. Aravindh was the star of the match. The ball handler not only displayed wonderful skill in distributing the ball, but also adequate shooting prowess, scoring 13 points. With forwards Anbu Kumar and Moses Jeevanath giving good support to pivot Phuvaneshwaran, Indian Bank, by the third quarter ran up an unbeatable 15-point lead.

If at all, the Railway team put up a modicum of fight, it was in the first two quarters. Thanks to pivots Leonard Charles (18 points) and Bernard Philips (15) and good support from ball handler and debutant Navaneethan, Southern Railway ran the bank team close; just two points separating the two teams. However, by the end of the penultimate quarter, it was clear as to which would emerge triumphant.
