Monsoon session curtailed
Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI:
The monsoon session of Parliament, which was scheduled to conclude on August 30, will now end on August 25.
The move follows a request by members from Maharashtra who said they wanted to be in their constituencies after Ganesh Chaturthi which falls on August 27.
After an agreement was reached between party leaders in the Speaker's chamber on Friday, Speaker Somnath Chatterjee announced the curtailment of the session in the Lok Sabha. To make up for lost time, the House would, from August 1, sit daily (Monday to Friday) till 8 p.m.
On Thursday, Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Priyaranjan Dasmunsi said an all-party delegation of MPs from Maharashtra requested him to consider making three working days following Ganesh Chaturthi as no-session days.
