Temple gutted

Shimla: The historic Boddh temple in tribal Kinnaur district in Himachal Pradesh was completely destroyed in a fire, which consumed 9th century paintings and artefacts of great archaeological significance.

Rare idols, artefacts and 170 handwritten religious books were reduced to ashes as the heavily timbered temple went up flames on Saturday night.

The main idol of Lord Buddha was saved, but scores of Buddhist paintings and murals done in the past by Lamas were completely destroyed. — PTI
