COIMBATORE: Over 580 of the 700 third year students of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham (who are now in the final year) have got placements in Information Technology companies. The latest feather in the cap is selection of five students by Microsoft. This is the first time the company is recruiting from the University. Jairam Chandar, Ramya Priyadarshini, Sidharth Vijaychandran, Dilip Rajeev and Rajesh were selected from the 65-70 students who had appeared for the preliminary round of tests. (Twelve were short-listed). The Centre for Corporate Relations at the University gives the students about 120 hours of training a year to prepare them for the placements. For all the five, it is getting into a "dream company". And, what made them find jobs in their dream company - one has to be sound on the technical front and an all-rounder. "It is a holistic judgement," says one of them. Apart from being strong on technical details, the students were asked to work out actual problems. Hence, they had to not only know the concepts but also know how to apply them. About five more companies were expected to come for selection of third year students (who are now going to the fourth year).
