Hydrocarbon exploration company in Assam

Special Correspondent

Guwahati: Assam Power and Industry Minister Pradyut Bordoloi on Saturday announced that the government would set up a hydrocarbon exploration company as a joint venture on Gujarat model to look for crude oil and natural gas in the State.

The Minister said that the company would help the State to strengthen its coffers as its present income from hydrocarbon available in the State is limited to royalty from the oil companies. Mr. Bordoloi, who also holds the portfolio of power, unveiled a perspective plan for generating 1,630 mega watts of power within a decade's time. The State at present generates only 100 MW against the peak hour demand of 700 MW.
