Army scheme to ensure last rites for veterans

NEW DELHI: The Indian Army's Adjutant General, A. S. Jamwal, on Saturday launched a scheme to ensure last rites for its veterans and their widows at Delhi Cantonment here . Under the scheme, former service personnel and their wives would be required to register at the military canteen. A specially formed organisation would provide an on the spot grant of Rs. 2,500 at the homes of the deceased. It will also inform other veterans in the area about the death as well as conduct the last rites, if necessary.

The first phase of the scheme is being launched in Delhi, Chennai and Lucknow. Other parts of the country will be covered in the next phase.
