WELLINGTON: Three erupting volcanoes in Vanuatu are causing havoc on outlying islands, with ash affecting water and food supplies. Radio New Zealand International reported on Friday that ash from Lopevi has destroyed crops and contaminated drinking water. The National Disaster Office said it has not been able to reach one of two villages on Paama Island, which have been badly affected by ash from Lopevi over the past two weeks. Reports from the nearby island of Ambrym said Benbow and Marum have also started erupting, and are sending down ash over 10 villages in the southeast of the island. Vanuatu groups a string of more than 80 islands. Some have volcanoes. Xinhua
