First win for Sasikiran

NEW DELHI: K. Sasikiran finally tasted victory in the Bosna Sarajevo 2006 Grandmasters chess tournament by beating German Arkadij Naiditsch in the fifth round in Sarajevo on Thursday.

Sasikiran's impressive victory with black pieces came in just 31 moves of Ruy Lopez against Naiditsch, winner of the premier Dortmund title ahead of the reigning World champion Veselin Topalov last year.

The results (fifth round): Arkadij Naiditsch (Ger, 1.5) lost to K. Sasikiran (Ind, 2); Borki Predojevic (Bih, 2.5) lost to Magnus Carlsen (Nor, 3); Vladimir Malakhov (Rus, 3) drew with Liviu-Dieter Nisipeanu (Rom, 3).
