MUMBAI: Mahindra United was caught napping by Mohun Bagan after the defence let the guard down in a National Football League match. Dipendu Biswas's opportunism and Dharamjit Singh alertness fetched it a goal each as the Kolkata club won 2-1 at the Cooperage. Rauf Khan converted a penalty for the consolation goal for Mahindra. The NFL champion, already assured of the title, rested Yusif Yakubu and Shanmugham Venkatesh. Sushanth Mathew, K Anees, Subhas Chakraborty moved the ball around to keep Bagan busy. The bustling Bagan striker Biswas broke through on the right near the centreline, powered his way goalwards and bypassed the defence with a lob across for Coffi Agbessi sprinting down the left. Biswas then made a run to the far post in time to deflect his teammate's cross. Dharamjit's goal happened due to disarray in the home team defence, goalkeeper Sandip Nandy beaten by a snap shot. Bagan is placed fourth at this stage, with 24 points off 15 matches in the race for the ONGC Cup, behind topper Mahindra United (35/16), East Bengal (28/16) and Dempo (24 points but superior goal difference).
