CHENNAI: An International Wildlife Film Festival featuring a dozen award-winning films from around the world will be held in the city from May 14. Organised jointly by the Sathyam Cinemas and Ecotone, the festival `ALIVE' is organised in association with Wildscreen, the world's largest wildlife film festival. Saravanakumar of Ecotone says it is for the first time a wildlife film festival on the big screen in India. Often dubbed as "Green Oscars", Wildscreen attracts the best filmmaking talent, he adds. The 19-day festival kick-starts with an online forum and panel discussion on Monday. The details of the forum can be accessed on website (www.aliveindia.co.in) . It seeks to cover current issues in wildlife conservation and initiate public participation with the experts. The panellists include experts working for environmental conservation, a tiger specialist, wildlife filmmaker, herpetologist, climatologist, hydrologist and an environmental lawyer. Prominent names on the panel include Dr. Ullas Karanth, Romulus Whitaker, Shekar Dattatri, Bharat Jairaj and Jagdish Krishnaswamy. On May 14 at Sathyam Cinemas, the public can have a face-to-face interaction with some of the experts.
