HYDERABAD: Several trade unions have given a call for a procession from Bagh Lingampalli to Indira Park on May 3 in protest against the general body meeting of Asian Development Bank (ADB) in the city from that day. The demonstration will focus on the impoverishment of people on account of conditional loans given by ADB. While lending, the agency insisted on slashing of subsidies, introduction of user charges in welfare activities of Government and privatisation of public sector undertakings, the representatives of the unions told a news conference here on Friday. Those present included Sudha Bhaskar of Centre of Indian Trade Unions, Mohd. Yousuf of All-India Trade Union Council, V. Nageswara Rao of Confederation of Central Government Employees and Workers, S.N.C. Ramakrishnamacharyulu of South Central Railway Mazdoor Union and M. Janardhan Reddy of Andhra Pradesh Public Sector Employees Federation.
State criticised
They criticised the acceptance of ADB loans by the State Government for essential services like water and power and passing on the burden to consumers. The ADB was trying to implement its agenda in the railways with an eye on scaling down the workforce.
