VISAKHAPATNAM: Bharat Sevashram Sangha (BSS) a philanthropic and charitable organisation founded by Swami Pranavanandaji in 1917 is planning to set up an ashram-cum-chapter in the city. Speaking to The Hindu here on Wednesday, Swami Amaratananda, the head of the 12-member delegation touring this city, said: "Our motto is to extend relief at the earliest to people devastated by any calamity, and serve the poor. The coastal belt of Andhra Pradesh is prone to cyclones and floods and so our intention is to set up a base over here so that we can reach the affected within a short time.''
Activities
Headquartered in Kolkata, BSS is a worldwide organisation and has set up over 55 centres in India and abroad. The Sangha has already set up a 100-bed charitable cancer hospital at Navi Mumbai and another is under construction at Kolkata. The organisation also received worldwide acclaim for its relief operations in Andamans in the wake of the killer tsunami. To showcase their activities the 12-member `prachar' team is here and will be staying till March 1 at the Kali Temple complex in Ukkunagaram Township. ``Right now our daily activities comprise bhajan, religious discourse, arati and prasadam distribution. On March 26, we propose to hold a mega Sanatana Dharma Sammelan at the Kali Temple complex from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. The chief coordinator of BSS Swami Viswatmanandaji will be attending the sammelan. It is an open invitation and anybody can attend the sammelan,'' informed Ratikantaji a member of the prachar team. Further particulars can be had on 0-9433342513.
