BANGALORE: A 30-year-old woman was found dead in mysterious circumstances in a room on Triveni Road in Yeshwanthpur police station limits on Saturday. The police gave the name of the woman as Farhana (30), a garment factory worker. The police suspect that she has been murdered. According to the police, Farhana was staying alone in a room in Nataraja building on Triveni Road 7th Cross. She was staying there for the past three months. On Saturday morning, the owner of the building Nataraj noticed foul smell emanating from Farhana's room. He used a duplicate key to open the door and saw the highly decomposed body of Farhana under a cot. Nataraj informed the Yeshwanthpur police. The police found stab injuries on Farhana's stomach and head. The police suspect that some miscreants assaulted her before injuring her. The police found a cigarette packet and eatables in the room.
Three killed
Three persons were killed in two accidents in the city on Friday. Two persons riding a motorcycle died when their vehicle was hit by a tipper near Doddabele Cross on the Bangalore-Mysore Road. The police gave the names of the victims as Xavier (30) of J.J. Nagar and Kumendar (19), a native of Jharkhand. The Byatarayanapura police have arrested the driver of the tipper. In the other incident, a 59-year-old pedestrian was killed when he was hit by a motorcycle on Old Madras Road. The police gave the name of the victim as Abdul Rasheed of Darga Mohalla. The K.R. Puram traffic police have registered a case.
Dies of burns
A 24-year-old woman died of burns in Victoria Hospital on Saturday. The police gave the name of the victim as Indira, a resident of Kamalanagar 5th Main. According to the police, Indira doused herself with kerosene and set herself ablaze on Friday night. She was brought to the hospital by relatives and she died around 3 a.m. The Basaveshwara Nagar police are investigating.
Laptop stolen
Two motorcycle-borne persons snatched the laptop of a chartered accountant near Koramangala BDA complex on Friday. According to the police, Praveen A. Hosmani, who works for a firm on M.G. Road, had taken his friend for dinner. As they were walking down the road after food, the miscreants snatched the laptop and sped away. The Koramangala police have registered a case.
Destroyed
Material worth Rs. 2 lakhs were destroyed in a fire at a garment shop in M.S. Ramaiah Layout in Hessaraghatta police station limits on Friday night. Three fire tenders were pressed into service to put out the blaze.
Pirated VCDs seized
The Central Crime Branch officials on Thursday raided a business establishment in Sampangiramnagar and seized pirated VCDs and DVDs, together worth Rs. 1.16 lakh. The police arrested the proprietor Anand (25) of Sampangiramnagar on charges of trading in pirated goods.
Gas leak
Jagannath (48) suffered burns in an explosion caused by gas leak from a LPG cylinder at his house in Vidyanagar in Girinagar police station limits on Friday. The police said the explosion occurred around 5 a.m. when Jagannath lighted the stove.
