Director: G.K. Mudduraj A mauled version of Telugu blockbuster "Murari," Gopi gropes in the dark to strike a balance between science and superstition, but ends up in a confusion of its own making. Director G.K. Mudduraj appears to believe that merely recreating a masculine zamindari ambience with all its trappings, which ensured Murari's success, will do the same for the Kannada flick. But he ignores the need for the narrative to have local flavour. The story is about a family headed by an orthodox woman. Her family has been cursed to lose one of its male members every 48 years. The goddess has already claimed two lives, including that of her husband, and is waiting for her third victim. Gopi (Murali), who is in his twenties and in love with Vasu, a girl who belongs to a rival family, is destined to be the goddess's third victim. The film does not answer questions such as why the family has been cursed? One should watch the original Telugu film to find the answer. Murali relies on acrobatics for lack of histrionics. Gowri as Vasu makes some effort to exhibit her talent but in vain. Doddanna, Ashok and Loknath have been wasted in their roles. While Sumitra tries to breath life into her role, it is pathetic to see Umasri in a character rendered lifeless.
