Chief Secretary pulled up in Council

Staff Reporter

`B.K. Das should meet the Chairman of the House in three days'

BANGALORE: Members of the Legislative Council have criticised the attitude of Chief Secretary B.K. Das and a couple of other senior IAS officers towards elected representatives and the public.

The matter was discussed in the House on Friday when K. Balakrishna Bhat (Bharatiya Janata Party) drew attention to the absence of a few senior officers.

Chairman V.R. Sudarshan told Leader of the House D.H. Shankaramurthy to take steps to ensure the officials' presence, and the latter urged the Chair to draw the Chief Secretary's attention to the matter.

Mr. Sudarshan said: "The Chief Secretary has not responded to three telephone calls I made in connection with the inauguration of the e-library of the legislature. Has he presented himself in the House? Has he ever toured [districts] to inspected rural development works?"

Leader of the Opposition H.K. Patil said the officer is allegedly behaving in an authoritarian manner.
