Rs. 10 lakhs taken away from bank

Police suspect insiders' hand

BANGALORE: A bag containing Rs. 10 lakhs in cash was stolen from Syndicate Bank's branch in K.R. Puram on Tuesday, the police said.

The police said around 11 a.m. Bhuvanendra Reddy, a builder, came to the bank located on Old Madras Road to deposit the cash. Mr. Reddy walked into the chamber of the branch manager, Ramanath Rai, and gave him the bag containing cash.

The manager gave the bag to an attender and directed him to give it to the cashier. The attender kept the bag on a chair next to the cashier's cabin and returned to the manager's chamber to find out Mr. Reddy's Permanent Account Number (PAN).

After getting Mr. Reddy's PAN, the attender went near the cashier's cabin and found the bag missing, the police said. On a complaint by the manager, the K.R. Puram police have registered a case.

The police said the bag should have been taken out of the bank only through the main door.

The police suspect some insiders could have been involved in the theft. The police said they are questioning some of the bank employees.

Killed in accident

A motorcyclist was killed after he was hit by a private bus on the Mysore Road flyover on Tuesday.

According to the police, Harikrishna (37) of Wilson Garden was on his way to Bytarayanapura when the private bus hit the motorcycle. Harikrishna died on the spot.
