BANGALORE: Election of members to the eight Standing Committees in the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) Council was put off for the second consecutive day on Tuesday. Sources said the ruling Congress in the BMP was forced to put off the polls as the party had not been able to decide on the consensus candidates to the Works and Town Planning Committees. Besides, even the Opposition Janata Dal (Secular) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are not ready with their list of members for the polls. In every committee of seven members each, the Congress shares two members with the Janata Dal(S) and one with the BJP. "But with several corporators drifting away from the Janata Dal(S) and its strength reducing to 17 from 22, the BJP is demanding two memberships in each committee this time," sources said. But leaders of both the parties denied there was any confusion in selection of the members. "We are ready with our list," said B.R. Nanjundappa, a Janata Dal(S) leader. The ruling party leader, H. Ravindra, said the Congress was ready to hold elections if the Janata Dal(S) and the BJP were keen on two memberships in each committee. The elections will now be held on Wednesday.
