DDC demands market price for acquired land

`Evictees should be rehabilitated'

KOCHI: The District Development Committee (DDC) has demanded that the owners of the land being acquisitioned for developmental activities be given the market price.

A resolution introduced by K. Babu, MLA, at the DDC meeting held at Collectorate Conference Hall on Saturday and supported by Ludy Luiz, MLA, demanded that those who would be evicted from their dwelling places as part of the acquisition process be rehabilitated at other locations.

The DDC meeting adopted another resolution presented by Saju Paul, MLA, demanding that the development projects being implemented with the natural calamities relief fund be kept out of the purview of the value added tax.

District Collector A.P.M. Mohammed Hanish, who presided over the meeting, said that the decision to ban tipper lorries from the streets at night would be strictly enforced. The four lorries of the Kochi Corporation that remove dirt and garbage have been exempted from this restriction.

The Collector said that the meeting that 48 projects being implemented with the River Management Funds were being completed.

The total estimate for these projects was around Rs.2.93 crores. The Collector said that requests for more projects had been received from the MLAs and that these would be submitted to the Government for approval. He said that the revamping of the Hospital Development Committees was getting delayed, as the political parties were yet to nominate their representatives into the committee.

Mr. Luiz complained that many places in Vaduthala, including residential areas, were experiencing drinking water shortage for the past four days. Mr. Babu demanded action against those who were delaying the distribution of eggs for school children in Tripunithura Municipality.
