MCH looking for land to locate garbage dumps

HYDERABAD : The Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad has sought identification of Government and patta lands situated in surrounding municipalities for dumping garbage generated in the city.

The Government has been asked to issue instructions to the Collectors of Nalgonda, Rangareddy, Mahabubnagar and Medak districts to identify suitable sites for outright sale to the corporation.

Isolated sites

In a representation to Information Minister and Hyderabad district in-charge Minister Mohammed Ali Shabbir, MCH standing committee chairman D. Mohan said it had become essential to identify and acquire vast open lands in adjoining districts to serve as dumping yards for MCH.

The lands should be far from habitations and cheap. Isolated spots measuring 50 to 100 acres on the Bhongir, Nagarjuna Sagar, Sangareddy and Shadnagar routes may be identified to decentralise dumping of garbage, Mr. Mohan said.

Jawahar Nagar site

Referring to the protest by villagers to dumping of garbage at Jawahar Nagar, Mr. Mohan urged the Chief Minister to intervene in the matter and ensure unhindered access to Jawahar Nagar site till alternative arrangements were made.

MCH now lifts 2,200 metric tonnes of garbage everyday. At present the entire solid waste is being disposed of at Jawahar Nagar after operations at Auto Nagar and Gandhamguda were suspended on orders from the Pollution Control Board.
