Report sought on compensation paid to farmers

Special Correspondent

AHMEDABAD: A Division Bench of the Gujarat High Court has issued notices to the State government, the Surendranagar District Collector, the Limbdi Taluka development officer, and the officer in-charge of the calamity relief fund of the Central Government to submit within eight weeks the action-taken report of the compensation paid to the farmers in the district who had suffered extensive damages in the recent floods.

The notices were issued on a public interest litigation filed by the Jansangharsha Manch on behalf of the farmers in Limbdi taluka in Surendranagar district. The Manch advocate, Mukul Sinha, told the Division Bench comprising the Chief justice Bhawani Singh and Mr. justice H. K. Rathod that the Central Government had announced a relief package for the flood victims in Gujarat following which the State Government had passed a resolution on July 25, formulating four packages for assistance to the farmers depending on the extend of damages suffered.
