NIZAMABADADILABAD: As many as 15 nominations were filed in the Municipal Corporation of Nizamabad, 21 in the Municipal Council of Kamareddy and nil in Bodhan Municipality on the first day of filing of nominations for the civic body elections, on Thursday. In Nizamabad three nominations came from the Bharatiya Janata Party, six from the Telugu Desam Party, four from the Telangana Rashtra Samithi and one from the Indian National Congress. One Independent also filed his papers, according to official sources. The District Revenue Officer and MCN Commissioner (in-charge), C. Sreeram Reddy, meanwhile, said the nominations filing process would come to an end on September 5 at 3 p.m. Seventeen Returning Officers one each for three divisions were appointed to receive nominations from the contestants for 50 divisions in the town, he said. In a press release issued here on Thursday, he said on September 6 nominations would be scrutinised and September 9 would be the last date for withdrawal of papers. On the same day, the final list of contestants would be announced after 3 p.m. On September 24 polling would be conducted from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the counting of votes would commence on September 26 at 8 a.m., Mr. Reddy explained. NIZAMABADADILABAD: Some 34 nominations from various wards in the six municipalities were filed on the first day of nominations in Adilabad district. One Congress aspirant filed his nomination at Bellampalli Municipality, for Mancherial, 20 candidates filed their nominations which includes one from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) 11 of Congress, 4 of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and one independent. A BJP candidate filed his nomination at Bhainsa and two independents filed nominations at Adilabad. Five candidates each filed their nominations at Kagaznagar and Nirmal.
MLA's wife files papers
Mahabubnagar: Four aspiring candidates filed their nominations in two municipalities and not a single nomination was received in the remaining two municipalities -- Gadwal and Narayanpet -- in the district. Puli Anjanamma, wife of local MLA Puli Veeranna, filed her nomination to contest in Mahabubnagar municipality that was reserved for BC general.
