Eye camp

CHENNAI: Rajan Eye Care Hospital, in association with Rotary Club of Anna Nagar Aadithya, conducted a free eye screening camp at Malayambakkam village in Poonamallee on Sunday.

Over 170 patients were screened for various eye problems such as cataract, refractive errors, glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy.

Of them, 23 were referred for cataract surgery to Rajan Eye Care Hospital.

The Hospital also conducted at its premises a diabetes screening camp jointly with Rotary Club of Madras T. Nagar. Over120 patients were screened for diabetic eye disease by a team of doctors led by Mohan Rajan, Medical Director of the hospital. While 14 patients were identified with eye disorders, 20 were given spectacles and medicines.

Dental camp

Singhvi Charitable Trust conducted a free eye and dental camp at KLK Higher Secondary School, Gummidipoondi, Thiruvallur district on Sunday. About 635 persons were screened for diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, cataract, vision and dental health. While 253 attendees were given free medicines, 45 persons were shortlisted for surgery.

Flat promoters' meet

Metro Flat Promoters' Association will meet on August 30 to discuss various current issues. Representatives of the Confederation of Flat Promoters Association, Builders Association of India and other organisations are expected to attend the programme scheduled at Hotel Dee Cee Manor, T. Nagar.

Courses sanctioned

Dr. Ambedkar Government Arts College has been granted affiliation by University of Madras for starting B. Com. (General), M.Sc. (Computer Science) and M.Sc. (Mathematics) courses from this academic year. Tuition and other fee structures have been fixed lesser than other institutions, M. A. Shahul Hameed, College Principal, said.

Office-bearers

The Madras Printers' and Lithographers' Association held its annual general body meeting on August 18. The new office-bearers for 2005-06 elected by members are S. Baskarapandian, president, R. Udhayakumar, honorary secretary, V. Ravi, honorary treasurers, R. C. Daga and K. S. Balaraman, vice presidents and T. A. Selvam, honorary joint secretary.

Rail official assumes charge

Abraham Jacob has assumed charge as the Chief Operations Manager of Southern Railway. He was till recently the Chief Operations Manager of South Western Railway.

Pedestrian knocked down

A youth who came for treatment at the Government Institute of Thoracic Medicine at Tambaram Sanatorium was killed in a hit and run accident on Monday morning.

According to the police, Chellamuthu (20), finished his consultations at the hospital and was on his way to Tambaram to board a bus to his native place. He was crossing the road when a speeding vehicle knocked him down and sped past.
