Another blast in Capital

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: Panic gripped the Nand Nagri area of North-East Delhi early on Monday morning after a minor blast left one person injured. Though the blast occurred hours after two explosions rocked Delhi's cinema halls late on Sunday night, the police are trying to ascertain if it had any links with the twin blasts.

According to the police, Ram Prasad, a 35-year-old labourer living at Saboli village in the Nand Nagri area, was going to buy milk at 5-45 a.m. when he found a wallet lying abandoned on the roadside near a water tank on Wazirabad Road. As he picked up the wallet and tried to open its chain, it exploded.

The minor blast caused injuries to the victim's hand and face.

He was immediately rushed to the nearby Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital where he is responding to treatment, the police said later in the day.

Investigations

Later talking to media persons at Police Headquarters, the Police Commissioner, K. K. Paul, said forensic experts were assessing the nature of the explosive.

Appealing to people not to touch any unidentified objects, he said investigations were on to ascertain if the Nand Nagri blast was in any way linked to the explosions in the two cinema halls.
