Gaiety marks Baisakhi

HYDERABAD: The Sikh community of the twin cities celebrated Baisakhi with religious fervour and gaiety here on Wednesday.

A `vishal deewan' was organised by the Prabandhak Committee, Gurudwara Saheb, Ameerpet, which was attended by 20,000 Sikh devotees and members of other faiths.

Later, a colourful procession was taken out from Ameerpet through Greenlands, Begumpet and Punjagutta main thoroughfares with the Sikh youth displaying their martial skills and the Keerthani Jathas of men, women and youth groups rendering `shabad keertans'.

Earlier in the day, Ragi Jathas who were specially invited from Delhi and Ludhiana along with their city counterparts rendered Gurubani keerthans.

The president of Prabandhak Committee Gurdwara Saheb Ameerpet, S. Ajeet Singh Nischanchi, said `Baisakhi Keertan Darbar' would be held from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. on Thursday.
