Four injured in car-bus smash
Tuticorin : Four persons were injured when the car they were travelling in dashed against a bus at Puthiyamputhur near here on Tuesday evening. The injured were admitted to a private hospital in Tuticorin. The police later arrested Peski (31), the driver.
Man held for outraging modesty of woman
Tuticorin : The North police arrested Velayudham (49) for outraging the modesty of a 31-year-old woman on Tuesday. The police said the accused had pulled the victim's hand while she was standing in front of the TNEB office at State Bank Colony in the town.
Woman held for stealing jewels
Tuticorin: A 32-year-old woman was arrested for stealing gold ornaments at Kovilpatti on Tuesday night. The Kovilpatti East police said Susila stole the ornaments belonging to Manikandan while he was standing near a temple.
Search for man
Tuticorin : The Eral police are on the look out for one Sudalaimani, who had allegedly murdered his mother-in-law on Tuesday. The police said Sudalaimani was on loggerheads with Pappa for quite some time over some financial transactions. The accused had strangulated the woman to death and threw the body into a well at Eral.
Two arrested for stealing cables
Tuticorin : The South police arrested two persons on Wednesday on the charge of stealing cables kept at VVD Road on Tuesday. According to police sources, Meganathan (39) and Antony (19) were arrested on a complaint lodged by Mariappan that 220-metre cable owned by him was missing since Tuesday.
`Make Tirukkural national literature'
Chief Minister Jayalalithaa read out the resolution. "After the Holy Bible, Tirukkural has the distinction of having been translated into the maximum number of languages in the world," she said. Answering a question from C. Vijayabasker (AIADMK) in the Assembly, Sports Minister Inbathtamilan on Wednesday said most of the work on the Rs. 55-lakh pool was completed. According to prosecution, Sivakumar strangled his wife on March 3, 2005 suspecting her fidelity. He attempted to kill his daughter Vanathi before escaping. The Peelamedu police arrested him on March 4 on murder and attempt to murder charges under Sections 302 and 307 of the Indian Penal Code. Sivakumar hanged himself using a hand towel. Staff Reporter
Nari Korava shot dead
The police arrested Ramesh and his father S. Anjumani (45). The incident occurred following a petty quarrel between Suman's son, Arunkumar, and his nephew in the school. Suman's wife, after an argument, complained about his rude behaviour to her father and brother. Later, in a clash Suman was shot dead. Special Correspondent Conditional nod for Sachien CHENNAI: A day after staying the release of the Vijay-starrer Sachien, the Madras High Court permitted the producers to screen the film without a song, which was allegedly copied from a Telugu film without authorisation. Modifying his order, Justice N. Kannadasan said: "The respondents are permitted to release the picture without the audio, music track and music background of the song `Dai Dai Dai Kattikoda."

At a function recently organised by the Erode Branch of IMA, Perundurai Medical College and S.S. Trust, as part of a medical expo, he urged doctors to create awareness on organ donation.
