AUGUSTA, APRIL 9. Vijay Singh didn't like following in Phil Mickelson's footsteps at the Masters on Friday. While finishing his first round, Singh complained to rules officials that the metal spikes in Mickelson's shoes were too long and were creating spike marks. Singh played in the group behind the defender. "He said on the 12th hole that someone in the group in front was tracking the green with his shoes," said Steve Rintoul, a U.S. PGA Tour rules official working at the Masters. "When he looked at where the track was going, he figured out it was Phil."
A rules official confronted Mickelson as he walked off the 13th tee. Rintoul said the official on the 13th green watched for abnormal footprints, and found there was no problem. AP
