TAI to present paper at Asian conference

By Our Special Correspondent

BANGALORE, APRIL 7. The Turf Authorities of India (TAI) will present a comprehensive `paper' touching all aspects of Indian racing at the Asian Racing Conference to be held in Seoul next month.

The Executive Council of the ARC, which met in Dubai during the World Cup, endorsed the idea of India opening up its racing at a high profile gathering like the Asian conference. TAI has acknowledged the move as a "window of opportunity to showcase to the world the true picture of Indian racing."

The Indian presentation is likely to be a three-tier affair. Dr M.A. Mirza of the Hyderabad Race Club, it is gathered, is working on a specific theme "Stewards - A common world Approach". The presentation is centred around issues of vital importance and their handling by different race clubs in the country, so as to reach out for a cohesive work ethics to deal with sensitive racing issues. It is believed by TAI that with the eyes and ears of the world open, such a debate would be immensely helpful to Indian racing.

Dr Srinivasa Gowda, the current chairman of the Bangalore Turf Club who is also head of TAI, is expected to take up the task of projecting the current state of Indian racing in the context of Asian racing standing up to global challenges.

Dr Cyrus Poonawalla, former Chairman of the Royal Western Indian Turf Club and an internationally acclaimed breeder, is expectedly flying the flag for the Indian Breeding Industry. Dr Cyrus is likely to be head of an enthusiastic initiative named Breeding Workshop.
