Chess
NEW DELHI, MARCH 26. Bangalore will host the National `A' chess championship for women from April 23 to May 9. Koneru Humpy will lead the field of 21 players, including S. Vijayalakshmi and fellow-WGMs like D. Harika, S. Meenakshi, Nisha Mohota, Aarthie Ramaswamy and Swati Ghate. According to a press release of the All India Chess Federation, Bangalore will also be the venue of the Asian individual championship from July 5 to 15. This will be followed by the Commonwealth championship in Mumbai from July 17 to 28. These two premier events, scheduled in February-March this year, were cancelled after the Madras HC restrained the then AICF secretary P. T. Ummer Koya and treasurer Soumen Majumdar on February 1.
