CHENNAI, FEB. 14. The Film Federation of India (FFI), an apex body of the film industry in India, has urged Chief Ministers of all the States to tackle video piracy under the Goondas Act. Sv.Rm. Ramanathan, general secretary, in a press statement, said a delegation of FFI recently met the Union Revenue Secretary and demanded the withdrawal of duty on raw films (both negative and positive), extension of tax discount benefits to multiplex complex entertainment centres, disbursal of financial assistance of Rs.5 crores to small producers and exemption of income tax on import of equipment to modernise theatres. In a press statement, Muktha V. Srinivasan, film producer, appealed to political parties to spend their time and energy constructively, protecting the Tamil film industry and desist from issuing statements against names of films.
