Yerran takes exception to Congress leader's remarks

By Our Special Correspondent

TIRUPATI. Feb. 10. Mutual acrimony is continuing unabated among Congress, TDP and the Samajwadi Party leaders to drive home the point whether it was in Uttar Pradesh or in Andhra Pradesh that the law and order situation is at its lowest ebb.

What touched off the debate was a recent remark by the AICC spokesperson, Anand Sharma, that the law and order situation in UP had deteriorated so much under the Mulayam Singh rule that it warranted immediate clamping of President's rule in the State.

Repudiating the charge, the general secretary of the Samajwadi Party, Amar Singh, in a statement said that the situation in UP was not any worse than what prevailed in the Congress-ruled Andhra Pradesh and that it was Andhra Pradesh which deserved to be brought under President's rule and not UP in the context of the deteriorating law and order situation.

Law order

Taking the cue from Amar Singh, it was the turn of the TDP's Parliamentary Party leader, K. Yerran Naidu, to lash out at the Congress for for giving a clean chit to the State in terms of the law and order situation.

Explaining his point, Yerran Naidu cited the instance of Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy's air-dash to New Delhi on Thursday without any scheduled programme and said that it was only to give an `explanation' to Sonia Gandhi on the law and order factor.

Mulayam lauded

Lauding the Mulayam Singh Government, Mr. Naidu referred to the arrest of the ruling party MP in connection with the alleged murder of a BSP MLA and wanted to know why the Congress Government in Andhra Pradesh did not even bother to interrogate its `top leaders' named in the FIR filed in the Paritala murder case.

This goes to prove as to in which State is the law and order situation is good or bad, he said and added that though the Congress high command knew the entire situation, it was looking the other way for obvious reasons.

Naidu also cited the speed with which the State government booked cases against the TDP leaders in connections with the incidents that followed Paritala's murder and questioned why it did not show the same efficiency in interrogating those named in the FIR of Paritala's case.
