BANGALORE, FEB. 3. The police have registered a case of negligence leading to death of a person against the management of Hotel Grand Ashok on the Bangalore airport premises where a fire accident claimed one life on Wednesday. Bhaskaran (43), a casual labourer in the flight catering division, died of asphyxiation after a fire broke out in the kitchen chimney of the restaurant on the 1st floor of the airport terminal building around 2.15 a.m. on Wednesday. The Deputy Commissioner of Police (East), N. Shivakumar, told The Hindu on Thursday that the airport police had registered a case in this regard. Mr. Shivakumar said the police, who suspected electric short circuit as the cause for the fire, had asked the State Electrical Inspectorate to investigate the cause of the fire. But the Deputy Chief Electrical Inspector, D.H. Basavaraju, said the department officials, who visited the airport on Thursday, were told by the airport authorities that the Central Electrical Authority (CEA) would conduct the probe as the incident had taken place in a Union Government-undertaking. Though CEA has its offices here, the Inspection Wing is based in Chennai.
