Steps soon to promote science prodigies: Chandy

The Chief Minister, Oommen Chandy, presenting a memento to the young scientist, Aasis Vinayak, at a felicitation accorded to him at SDA English Medium School in Pathanamthitta on Monday.

PATHANAMTHITTA, JAN. 24. The Chief Minister, Oommen Chandy, today announced that the Government would put in place a permanent set-up attached to the Department of Science and Technology to promote young science prodigies in the State.

Mr. Chandy was addressing a meeting organised by SDA English Medium School here to felicitate the young scientist, Aasis Vinayak, who invented a low energy water drawing system.

He said the proposed set-up would extend technical as well as financial assistance to young talents in the field of science and technology.

Mr. Chandy said the Government would extend help to install all necessary infrastructure facilities at the mechanical laboratory attached to the Sree Chitira Tirunal Engineering College of the KSRTC at Pappanamcode in Thiruvananthapuram for Mr. Aasis to make a prototype of his innovation, Vinayak's Hydel System.

The Chief Minister said the Government would meet the entire financial expense to make a prototype of the water pump, besides extending all technical as well as financial support to him to get patent. He said the Government would also seek help from the National Innovation Foundation in this regard.

The Seventh Day Adventists, Thrissur chapter, president, T.P. Kurien, presided over the function. The Food and Civil Supplies Minister, Adoor Prakash; the school Principal, T.I. John; the district panchayat president, K.K. Royson; the District Collector, Rabeendra Kumar Agarwal; the District Superintendent of Police, T. Chandran; and the Municipal chairperson, Ajeeba M. Sahib, also spoke. The Chief Minister also presented a memento to Mr. Aasis on the occasion. The young scientist's parents, Prafullachandran Pillai and Geetha, were also present.
