Sathyan Memorial Award for Jagathy

KOLLAM, JAN. 18. The noted film actor Jagathy Sreekumar has been selected for the maiden Sathyan Memorial Award instituted by the Sathyan Memorial Arts and Sports Club here. The club was started 34 years ago soon after the death of the actor Sathyan.

At a press conference here today, the president of the club, A. Sharafuddin, and advisory board member, Alphonsa John, said the award would be presented to Mr. Jagathy by the Minister for Cultural Affairs, A.P. Anilkumar, on January 26. The function will be inaugurated by the Minister for Fisheries, Dominic Presentation.

The award carries a cash prize of Rs. 10,001, citation and trophy.

Mr. Sharafuddin said Mr. Sreekumar had conveyed his desire to donate the cash prize to a poor home in Kollam. As a prelude to the event, the club was organising a free eye camp and a free speciality allopathic medical camp.

The eye camp under the leadership of experts from the Thirunelveli Aravind Eye Hospital would be held at Mamood S.S. Auditorium in the city on Friday and the medical camp on Sunday at the same venue.
