Narayani hospital relief team for Nagapattinam

VELLORE, DEC.28. A 25-member relief team from the Sri Narayani Hospital and Research Centre, run by the Sri Narayani Peedam, Thirumalaikkodi near here, comprising six doctors, nurses, para-medical staff and employees of the Peedam, will leave for Nagapattinam to provide assistance to tsunami-hit people.

The team will carry 7,000 bed-sheets, 5,000 saris, 3,000 dhotis and 10 bags of rice, all worth about Rs.15 lakhs, besides medicines worth about Rs. 2 lakhs. The team, led by Kulasekharan, will also provide treatment to the affected. It will camp for about 3-7 days and provide need-based assistance in consultation with the Collector, said a spokesman of the Sri Narayani Peedam. An ambulance will accompany the team.

The Vellore Institute of Technology will donate Rs.12 lakhs to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund, while the VIT management will contribute Rs. 6 lakhs. Teaching and non-teaching staff will contribute a day's salary. Besides, contributions from the students will be collected, says a VIT release.

A condolence meeting was held at the VIT.
