VISAKHAPATNAM, DEC. 25. Pomp and gaiety marked Christmas celebrations with people from the community attending midnight mass at all the famous churches in the city. Thousands of people thronged St. Peters Cathedral in Gnanapuram, St. Anthony Church in Maharanipeta, Infant Jesus Church in Seethammadhara, Emanuel Lutheran Church in Sector-II, MVP Colony attended the midnight mass and offered prayers for peace and prosperity of mankind. All the churches in the city were tastefully decorated. After offering prayers, bells rang at midnight. The Christian leaders cut cakes and conveyed greetings. People from other communities also took part in the celebrations.
Appeal for amity
At St. Peters Cathedral, the Arch Bishop, K. Maria Das, conducted the prayers and appealed to people to foster universal brotherhood. The Parish Priest performed the prayers at Infant Jesus Church. The pastor of Emanuel Lutheran Church, K. Sudhakar Rajaratnam and the chairman, D. Kruparao, told the congregation serve the humanity with utmost devotion and dedication. Special prayers were also conducted at various star hotels. To celebrate the occasion, Taj, Park, Grand Bay, Green Park, Daspalla, Meghalaya and other hotels made arrangements for special buffet with dance dhamakas.
