BITS issues admission notification

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD, DEC. 18. Students aspiring to join the Birla Institute of Technological Sciences (BITS) have to secure a minimum of 80 per cent in the Intermediate course with not less than 60 per cent each in Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics. A pass in Intermediate or 12th class is must.

The admission notification that was issued on Saturday said that admissions to the integrated first degree programmes of BITS, Pilani, both at Pilani campus and Goa campus, will be made through a computer-based online test. These tests will be conducted from April 10 to June 20, 2005 at several centres in India. However, toppers in the respective boards would get a direct admission irrespective of their scores in the online test.

Test pattern

S. Venkateswaran, Vice-Chancellor, BITS told The Hindu that the test will have Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, English Proficiency and Logical reasoning parts and is of three hours duration. All questions would be of objective type (multiple choice questions) and based on NCERT syllabus. The scores would be made available to the candidate immediately after the test to ensure transparency. A sample test will be made available to the registered candidates after February 1, 2005, on the BITS Website on which students can practice as many times as desired. Questions would be selected at random from a large question bank.

Each candidate would have a different paper but of same difficulty level and content. Candidates have to submit the forms, which are available on the BITS website.

Students can fill the form, take the printout and send the completed application form along with the prescribed fees of Rs. 600/- in the form of crossed Demand draft to Admissions Officer, BITS, Pilani - 333 031.

Students can also obtain the application by post from Pilani by sending a request on plain paper giving the candidate's name with complete postal address, accompanied by a crossed demand draft for Rs. 700/- (i.e., requisite fee of Rs. 600/- + Rs. 100/- towards postal and handling charges). The form will be sent by Speed Post / Registered Post. Requests by post will be accepted only till 20th January 2005 only.

Demand drafts should be drawn in favour of BITS, Pilani, payable at State Bank of Bikaner & Jaipur, Pilani (Code: 1398) or UCO Bank, Vidya Vihar, Pilani (Code: 0150).
