THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, NOV. 19. Temporary arrangements would be made for the Dental College to conduct its surgeries at the emergency operation theatre `C' at the Medical College Hospital here. Meanwhile, steps would be taken to make the casualty wing and operation theatre at the Dental College functional within two months, it was decided at a meeting convened here by the Director of Medical Education (DME). However, the Dental College authorities are learnt to have pointed out at the meeting that elective surgeries cannot be done in the emergency theatre and that a table specifically for elective surgeries should be provided. The lighting equipment and the defibrillator should be bought by the Dental College authorities through the Hospital Development Committee, it was suggested at the meeting. The Dental College authorities later said the decisions taken at the meeting offered no immediate solution to the problems faced by patients who have been staying on in the wards for maxillofacial surgery. The meeting was attended by the DME, Joint DME, Medical College Principal, MCH Superintendent, Joint DME (Dental) and Head of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Department, among others. Meanwhile, the Kerala Government Medical College Teachers' Association, in a statement here said the stand-off between various department heads at the Dental College was to blame for the operation theatre remaining non-functional. The Dental College authorities also did not make any contribution towards the funds collected towards the renovation of the major operation theatre at MCH, the statement said.
