Why cut only petrol price, asks Left

NEW DELHI, NOV. 15. The Left parties today welcomed the decision to reduce the price of petrol and urged the Government to also address the question of oil prices comprehensively.

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Communist Party of India said they did not understand the economic logic behind reducing the price of petrol alone, saying that the price of petroleum products had already started falling in the international market.

Petrol will be cheaper by Rs. 1.16 a litre in Delhi, Rs. 1.21 a litre in Kolkata and Rs. 1.26 a litre each in Chennai and Mumbai.

Talking to UNI, the CPI (M) Polit Bureau member, Sitaram Yechury, said the Government would have to reconsider the hike in prices of LPG and diesel to provide relief to the people and contain inflation.

"As we had anticipated the international price of crude oil has started declining after the US Presidential election, the Government should now reconsider the hike it proposed on LPG and diesel also."

The CPI national secretary, D. Raja, said that the Government would have to effect the rollback of both the LPG and diesel as well because the steep price hike of diesel has a cascading effect on the people and the rise in LPG affected millions of salaried people.
