6 film artistes win top award

CHENNAI, SEPT. 30. The State Government's `Best Actor Award' will be given to Murali, Surya and Madhavan and the `Best Actress Award' to Devayani, Sneha and Meena for 2000, 2001 and 2002.

An official release here said the Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa, on the heels of her announcing a package to help the film industry come out of the slump and make rapid strides, today released the list of artistes and technicians chosen for the awards.

Best films

Among the awards announced for movies for 2000, `Vanathaipola' has been adjudged the best film winning the first prize. `Vanavil' will bag the second prize and `Vetrikodikattu' the third prize. A special award will go to `Bharathi.'

`Iniya Udhayam' has been selected for the special award for the film upholding the dignity of women. `Budget Padmanabhan' will get the prize for film based on social issues. The second prize will go to `Mugavari' and the third to `Uyirile Kalandadu.'

The awardees include Murali, best actor (`Kadal Pookal'); Devayani, best actress (`Bharathi'); Vikraman, best director (`Vanathaipola') and Deva, best music director (`Kushi,' `Uyirile Kalandadu' and `Sandhithavelai').

Six persons including V. Arivazhagan were chosen for the students' award given by the Institute of Film and Television Technology.

Lifetime achievement

Seven others, Anjalidevi (Arignar Anna Award), Padmini (Kalaivanar Award), Kunnakudi Vaidyanathan (Raja Sando Award), Jamuna (MGR Award), S. Varalakshmi (Kavignar Kannadasan Award), Sukumari (Nadigarthilagam Sivaji Ganesan Award) and M.N. Rajam (Thyagaraja Bhagavatar Award) were chosen for their lifetime achievement.

Among the best film awards for 2001, the first prize will go to `Virumbugiren,' the second prize to `Pandavarbhoomi,' the third prize to `Anandam' and a special prize to `Nanda.' 'Jamila' has been adjudged the best film upholding the dignity of women. `Sonnaldhan Kaadala' will get the first prize and `Poovellam Unvasam' the second prize in the category of films based on social issues.

The best actor award will be given to Surya, and Sneha has been adjudged the best actress. Susi Ganesan (`Virumbugiren') will get the award for the best director, while Vidyasagar (`Dil', `Thavasi' and `Poovellam Unvasam') was chosen for the best music director award. Five persons including Sampathkumar were selected for the Institute of Film and Television Technology students' awards.

Bharatiraja (Arignar Anna Award), Rajasulochana (Kalaivanar Award), K. Balaji (Raja Sando Award), B.S. Saroja (MGR Award), Vanishree (Kavignar Kannadasan Award), Ravichandran (Nadigarthilagam Sivaji Ganesan Award) and Vyjayanthimala (Thyagaraja Bhagavatar Award) have also been chosen for awards.

Among the awards announced for 2002, `Ramana' has been chosen for the first prize for the best film. `Kannathil Muthamittal' will get the second prize, `Unnai Ninaithu' the third prize and `King' the special prize.

`Guruvamma' has been adjudged the best movie upholding the dignity of women.

The best actor's award for that year will be given to Madhavan (`Run,' `Anbe Sivam' and `Kannathil Muthamittal'), and Meena (`Ivan') will get the best actress award. The best director award will go to Manirathnam (Kannathil Muthamittal) and the best music director's award to Sirpi (Unnai Ninaithu). Five persons including J. Nandini (Ottam) were selected for the students' award.

Seven veterans — Jamuna Rani (Arignar Anna Award), P.B. Srinivos (Kalaivanar Award), A.V.M. Saravanan (Raja Sando Award), E.V. Saroja (MGR Award), M.S. Viswanathan (Kavignar Kannadasan Award), M. Saroja (Nadigarthilagam Sivaji Ganesan Award) and G. Shakuntala (Thyagaraja Bhagavatar Award) will also be given awards.
