NEW DELHI, SEPT. 9. The Ministry of Railways has set in motion a process to institutionalise the sharing of actionable intelligence in crime-prone States to enable regular interaction among the Government Railway Police (GRP), the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Intelligence officials for tackling crimes. All assistance to augment the efforts of the State Governments in the prevention and detection of crimes in trains and railway premises will be extended. The Ministry has been coordinating closely with the State Governments.
Additional staff
The RPF has been supplementing the efforts of the State Government Railway Police by deploying additional staff. The RPF has also taken up escorting of trains in crime-prone areas identified as such on the basis of reports of crime and interaction with the State Government Police. The Government is corresponding regularly with Chief Secretaries and the Directors General of Police to improve security. To provide security to women passengers, women squads such as Surakshini, Tejaswani and Durgavahini have been formed. Such squads check the women compartments to ensure trouble-free travel to women passengers.
